Indonesia Indonesia began to implement a power smart grid technology is a technology that operates the power system by combining computer technology, communications and networking. For Indonesia, this technology was first applied in Southwest Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara.

"Given the energy derived from fossil (fuel) will be exhausted in 2025. It is time for Indonesia to develop renewable energy such as solar power, water and wind. Therefore I strongly support the creation of demo Plant Micro Smart Grid," said Minister of Research and Technology, Gusti Muhammad Hatta.

Professors of Mangkurat University, said that "Plant Micro Smart Grid" is a new approach and the first in Indonesia to operate the power system that utilizes communications technology, computer, and cyber. Smart Grid which has been inaugurated by the backed techno ministry good variety of advanced technology electronic equipment and tools of information and communication technologies (ICTs).

"The initiative of the BPPT (Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology) is nice and the first in Indonesia. Because through the demo "Plant Micro Smart Grid" is able to integrate and manage the utilization of various renewable energy power plants either solar, wind, hydro, biomass and diesel ," Gusti said, as quoted from vivanews.

Meanwhile, the head of BPPT Marzan A Iskandar said the smart grid is a new approach. "Implementation of Smart Grid technology will provide greater benefits because the amount of renewable generation and distributed storage units and integrated increases, efficiency increases, operating expenses decreased, increased reliability and decreased CO2 emissions. And may this be a model that integrates solar energy, micro hydro, and diesel generator is intended to reduce the use of diesel fuel that is widely used in remote areas like the Southwest Sumba," Marzan said.

According to the United States Energy Board, "smart grid" is a class of technologies used for electricity delivery system in the 21st century, using a computer-based controllers and machines. This technology connects power-plants of various kinds to the consumer either home or business. Two-way communication-based technology has been used in other industries, but only 21 centuries before it is implemented in the electricity industry.
