Samsung has launched Galaxy Tab 7.7 for the Indian market. It was released in September 2011 at gadget show IFA in Germany but after 6 months Samsung has made it available for the Indian Customers.It will be facing major competition from Apple's iPad2. Have a look on its features-

Angry Birds arrives on Facebook

The popular addicted multi-platform angry-birds game is now available on Facebook ahead of the official launch in Jakarta at 12AM EST.This game was first launched for iOS in December 2009 and till now it has been downloaded over 700 million times which clearly shows its worldwide fan following.

"With the great success of the Angry Birds game on smartphone platforms, Rovio intends to reach more fans and be on every screen and every platform," Rovio Asia senior vice president Henri Holm said in a statement.

"Therefore, the company developed Angry Birds on Facebook to reach more than 800 million Facebook users worldwide."

Angry birds is Rovio’s 51th game. The previous successful games include the mobile version of Burnout and NFS. Because of the great success of Angry Birds, Rovio now is worth more than $1 billion and the company will soon become public.

In the game, players fling colorful and grumpy wingless birds from a slingshot into smarmy egg-stealing pigs.

It has been downloaded more than 700 million times since it launched in 2009 and the birds have become a global phenomenon, featuring on a huge array of merchandise and in popular culture.

The number of players is likely to soar beyond one billion as Rovio offers a new version of the game with more levels and interactive features to around 845 million Facebook users. The new app allows players to compete with their Facebook friends for high scores, send gifts to friends and achieve more precise and powerful targeting by purchasing new "power-ups".

Google's Drive to take on Dropbox

Cloud Computing is probably the hottest trend today and Google has trying its hands on it also. Google will soon be launching Drive which will go head to head with the famous Dropbox. Dropbox currently gives 2GB storage space to its users and for more space they will have to pay. Drive will offer more space than Dropbox. According to Wall Street Journal, "Drive allows people to store photos, documents and videos on Google's servers so that they could be accessible from any Web-connected device and allows them to easily share the files with others, these people said. If a person wants to email a video shot from a Smartphone, for instance, he can upload it to the Web through the Drive mobile app and email people a link to the video rather than a bulky file."

Drive, which is expected to be launched in the coming months, will be free for most consumers and business, with a premium service offered to those who want to store a large amount of files.

This is something Google can excel in because the company is well-seasoned when it has to do with running cloud services. Just think, products like GMail and GDocs work almost flawlessly in the cloud. In fact, you can argue that no one does cloud better than Google at this point. It also is in control of Android, so think about how deep it could integrate a cloud service into that platform.

Google's expected GDrive was first rumored around 2007, then resurfaced in 2009 after a reference to "Google Web Drive" was discovered in a collection of Google desktop programs. In September 2011, TechCrunch reported that Google Drive was launching "for real this time."

Windows 8 consumer preview set to launch on February 29

Wait for the Microsoft’s most anticipated OS is over now. Microsoft yesterday announced the launch date for its consumer preview version of Windows 8.Microsoft will be launching this beta version on February 29 in Barcelona during Mobile World Congress (MWC) and Windows 8 will have its separate event in a local hotel.

Windows is the most used OS and Windows7 was a success for Microsoft. Windows 8 will be having some changes like ‘START’ button will be missing. In place of it there will be ‘HOT CORNER’ button. The UI will be gorgeous. The existing features have been improved a lot.

Along with the launch of Windows8 Microsoft will also be opening its first “app store” having mini-programs for this version of Windows. In December, Microsoft began wooing developers for a February opening of its first Windows Store intended to feature third-party applications crafted for computers powered by the Redmond, Washington-based firm's software.

Earlier this week Microsoft released the early version of Windows 8 on a prototype tablet last week. If you want to experience Windows 8 then you can download its pre- beta version which is free to download. There are three packages and you can download anyone of them-

Trojan spreading through Facebook

It’s bad news. A Trojan is active on Facebook. It infects the computers by tricking the users. It tricks the users to download malware by asking them to open a fake CNN report about World War III. The story, using CNN logos, offer video footage of a breaking news story, but says users need to upgrade their Flash video software to watch. The fake news page says that US attacks Iran and Saudi Arabia, and begins of World War III. When users 'upgrade', their PC gets infected with a Trojan.

Videos are often used as 'bait', because computer users are used to upgrading video software such as Flash, so installing software does not set off alarm bells. Security experts Sophos reported at least 60,000 people have already fallen victim, The Daily Mail reports.

"Naked Security has seen a worrying number of Facebook users posting the same status messages today, claiming that the United States has attacked Iran and Saudi Arabia in a move heralding the beginning of World War 3," said Graham Cluley of Sophos on Naked Security blog.

"Within the first three hours of this malware campaign, some 60,000 Facebook users had been duped into visiting the malicious link," Cluley added. Cluley pointed out that it's possible that malicious code on users' computers is sending the message to Facebook without users knowing.

"To be on the safe side, you should scan your computer with up-to-date anti-virus software and ensure you have the latest security patches in place," he added.

So just don’t get tricked by it. World War III is not going to happen but your anti-virus may have to face a war against this Trojan is you tried to download this fake report. Stay safe, Don’t open the report.

Google releases Chrome for Android users

Google has finally released Google chrome for Android users. But don’t get excited if you are not an ICS user. Yes, Chrome is available for IceCream Sandwich users only and that also in specific countries. This Android Browser is in BETA stage and available for the ICS users residing in U.S., Canada, the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Australia, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Argentina and Brazil can download this browser from the Android Market.

The browser, first unveiled in 2008, will be available on tablets and mobile phones using the company's "Ice Cream Sandwich" Android software, Sundar Pichai, a senior vice president in charge of Chrome and applications, said in a blog posting.

Google hasn’t compromised with this browser and it is having all the features of its desktop version.
The company aims to improve the speed of mobile browsing by preloading top search results and enabling users to get the same tabs and bookmarks they have on their desktops.
"Chrome for Android is designed from the ground up for mobile devices," Pichai said. The software is "focused on speed and simplicity, but it also features seamless sign-in and sync so you can take your personalized Web browsing experience with you wherever you go, across devices."

Chrome for Android Beta also features the ability to sync with the seamless sign-in that allows you to take your personalized web browsing experience with you, wherever you go, no matter what device. It also has tabbed browsing and loads your top search results in the background while you type, speeding up your search experience.  The downside to Google’s Chrome is that you won’t have the choice to use this new browser unless you have a brand new Android 4.0 device, or one of the lucky devices that has managed to receive an upgrade.

The desktop version of Google Chrome is extremely popular among the users. It’s ICS version is also expected to be a hit among the users.

ADzero-A SmartPhone made of Bamboo

Do you think mobiles can be made of Bamboo? Have you ever seen such a phone? It’s not possible, right? Well, let me tell you there is a phone made of bamboo. It is called ADzero and is designed by a 23 year old British student Kieron-Scott. The phone is powered by IceCream Sandwich(ICS) so it is a Smart bamboo phone. The phone will launch later this year.

The story behind the phone is interesting. Kieron was frustrated due to similar design of most of the smartphone which was obviously due to same material used in making them. So he just made the design and posted it online. After that a technology entrepreneur contacted him and they hired a hardware engineer and formed their company. This phone was on display at London Design Week.

The phone does have access to Google’s Android market and one special feature of the phone is its camera. It’s flash is different from other phones. The phone is using built-in ring flash. . Instead of a single light next to the camera lens that flashes to illuminate proceedings for a photo, the ADZero boasts a light-up ring surrounding the lens. That means that the light hits your subject from all angles instead of just from one direction, which produces more even lighting and minimises shadows. Thus,you get superior quality pics from it.

It is not the first time when an attempt to create electronic item from bamboo is made. Asus has already made laptop from bamboo. Coming back to ADzero, this phone will go on sale by the end of this year and ofcourse there will be a lot of buzz about it. Would you buy it?

Major change made by Google in blogspot blogs

Google has made a significant change in blogger. Previously all blogger blogs were having a domain name as abc.blogspot.com like this blog was having domain name www.gadgetsmaniac4u.blogspot.com but now users visiting blogger blogs will be automatically redirected to their country specific domain for example if you are visiting this blog from India, you will see blog address as www.gadgetsmaniac4u.blogspot.in and if you are visiting it from UK then you will see the address as www.gadgetsmaniac4u.blogspot.co.uk. But Don’t worry if you are hosting your custom blog on blogger then you won’t be affected by it.  

Now the question is why is Google doing this? According to a recently added help page to “continue promoting free expression and responsible publishing while providing greater flexibility in complying with valid removal requests pursuant to local law”. Google explains the move with greater content removal flexibility as they can now manage those removals on a per country base to limit the “impact to the smallest number of readers” as content removed “due to a specific country’s law will only be removed from the relevant ccTLD”.

As far as I am concerned I don’t like this move by Google. It will create confusion among webmasters and visitors. Visitors may think the site has been moved or they are being redirected due to some sort of virus, because they haven’t seen any abc.blogspot.in or abc .blogspot.co.uk site before. For webmasters they might not lose traffic from Google but traffic coming from Yahoo, Bing or MSN may be adversely affected.Also bloggers may lose indexed pages by search engines other than Google.

Well, we can’t do anything against this move by Google. Just want to tell my users don’t get confused when you see a blogspot blog redirected to your country specific domain. This change is effective from past 4-5 days. Till now my blog’s traffic is not effected but we will have to wait for some more time before coming to any conclusion.

Facebook releases 60 new apps

Facebook has released some new applications to let users share everything from photos of what they cooked for dinner, to details on what they are wearing, to what concert they scored tickets to.This move from facebook comes right after Google+ reached 90m users world wide.

The world's largest online social network unveiled more than 60 new apps Wednesday that let users share the tiniest details of their lives on their Facebook profiles, now known as their Timeline.

Facebook users can already share the music they are listening to through apps such as Spotify, or the articles they are reading through Yahoo News and other services. Wednesday's announcement expands the number of available apps to cover a range of topics including food, fashion, travel and reading.

Facebook is calling it "frictionless sharing." It means once you sign up for the apps, they will automatically share your activity through Facebook. That said, users will be able to limit who can see this activity when they sign up for the apps, just as they can limit what friends or groups of friends can see their other Facebook updates.

The latest apps include Ticketmaster, reviews site Rotten Tomatoes and Pinterest, which bills itself as an "virtual pinboard" that lets people collect things they find around the Web. Facebook expects developers to create thousands more in the coming weeks and months.

iPad3 coming in March 2012

Recent rumors were that iPad3 is set to launch in February 2012 but according to the latest news Apple Inc's next iPad, expected to go on sale in March, will sport a high-definition screen, run a faster processor and work with next-generation wireless networks, according to three people familiar with the product.

The company's manufacturing partners in Asia started ramping up production of the iPad 3 this month and plan to reach full volumes by February, said one of the people, who asked not to be named because the details aren't public. The tablet will use a quad-core chip, an enhancement that lets users jump more quickly between applications, two of the people said.

Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook is counting on the new model to ward off mounting competition in a market that Apple pioneered two years ago. After its debut in 2010, the iPad emerged as the company's second-biggest source of revenue -- after the iPhone -- and inspired rival products from Amazon.com Inc and Samsung Electronics Co. Apple has sold more than 40 million iPads, generating at least $25.3 billion in sales.

Natalie Kerris, a spokeswoman for Apple, said the company doesn't comment on rumor and speculation. Whatever Apple fans are waiting for this amazing gadget and just 2 months before we can experience it.

Google releases Android Design Style Guide for developers

Android is an open source software, by the virtue of which everyone could spin off a version of their own without raising any copyright concerns. Since Google has absolutely no intention to curb the ethos of open source software, one of the casualties have been too much of fragmentation and difference in the design of the interfaces and applications.

During the launch of the latest version of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS), Google had promised to sort out the problem and unify the experience on Android. Going forward on that direction, the company has recently introduced an Android Design Style Guide to help the developers with advice on recommended iconography, patters, colors, typography, and writing styles. The site offers a comprehensive visual to third-party application developers, giving suggestions on everything from how to implement different visual elements to overall back-end patterns for the OS itself. Moreover, since ICS is supposed to be the same OS for both mobile phones and tablets, it was imperative of them to release a style guide of this nature.
No, it is not compulsory for the designers to follow the style guides while developing an application, but Matias Duarte, Google’s Director of Android user experience, feels that most developers shall surely abide by it once they find that apps built outside the style guide shall stand out.

Last month, Jobs was immortalized as an action figure by a pair of toy companies. Toy companies ‘in icons’ and ‘Dragon in Dream’ unveiled the 12-inch action figure called ‘iCEO mini’ in tribute to the tech visionary who gave the world the Mac, iPhone, iPad and iPod.

It is expected that after Mark Zuckerberg and Steve Jobs,the next comic will be of Bill Gates.

AppPlayer to bring entire Android Market to Windows8

This is a great news for all those people who want to buy a windows device but can’t due to limited number of apps available on Windows platform. BlueStacks recently showcased its app player at CES 2012 which is having a capability to bring the entire collection of over 400,000 apps available on Android Market to Windows OS 8.You won’t be able to distinguish your Windows apps from Android apps.

BlueStacks has solved the major problem for Microsoft which is having a hard time in Smartphone industry. Windows 7.5 powered Nokia’s Lumia didn’t sell well as expected by Microsoft and Nokia, ofcourse the main reason was lack of apps. Whereas iTunes and Android Market are having more than 400,000 apps, Windows is having merely 50,000 apps. With the launch of BlueStacks, Microsoft don’t have to face the difficultly of developing hundreds of apps every day.

BlueStacks unveiled an alpha version back in October also where its App Player brought some apps from Android Market into Windows 7 powered PCs, tablets and desktops but now it has taken a really big step further to bring entire Android Market into Windows device. But App Player is compatible with tablets, PCs and desktops only and it can’t run on mobiles.

Windows 8 is expected to launch in March and App Player will encourage people to buy Windows 8 device. BlueStacks has strike a deal with Taiwanese manufacturer InHon which will be launching its first ultrabook in March with preloaded App Player.

Bluestacks also said that they are working to build an AppPlayer for Mac users also.

Dell will be launching its first consumer tablet by the end of 2012.Dell is struggling in Electronics market due to its falling PC sales. It is facing huge competition from HP in PC market."We have been taking our time. The general failure of everyone that's tried to introduce a tablet outside of Apple" suggested Dell made a prudent choice, Felice said in an interview. "You will see us enter this market in a bigger way toward the end of the year. So we are not really deemphasizing it, we are really being very careful how we enter it.

"When you are talking about PC, people are more focused on the hardware itself. When you are talking about the tablet or the smartphone, people are interested in the overall environment its operating in," he added. "As we have matured in this, we are spending a lot more time in the overall ecosystem."

The OS system of the tablet is under consideration now. It will be either Windows 8 or Android. Felice said in OS” "There hasn't been a lot of advancement and it's given Microsoft a good window to come into the market with Windows 8. I like the touch Windows 8 feature," said Felice, who previously headed Dell's large enterprise division.

"We like Windows 8 but we continue to develop with Android as well. We are still going to be more choice-driven, based on the feedback we get from customers."

With the entry of Dell in Tablet market people will have more option to choose from and companies will try to bring something new every day to attract people. So just wait for another tablet and see what it has in store for us?

Acer unveils world's thinnest laptop

Acer has unveiled the world's thinnest laptop computer as an array of "ultrabook" rivals prepared to debut this week at the Consumer Electronics Show(CES) here.

The Taiwan-based computer titan will begin shipping Acer Aspire 5 models in the second quarter of this year, with prices to be disclosed in coming weeks.

"That S5 is quite significant," analyst Tim Bajarin of Creative Strategies said after the Acer press event yesterday."It looks like the thinnest and lightest, and it sets the bar for the rest of the ultrabook vendors," he continued.

The Aspire S5 has a 34-cm (13.3-inch) screen and is 15 mm at its thickest point. The ultrabook weighs slightly less than 1.35 kg (three pounds).

"We are committed to evolving this technology," said Acer chief executive J T Wang. "By the second quarter of this year we will have four models of ultrabook and more to come." Ultrabooks powered by Windows 8 will be released by Acer after Microsoft releases the new version of its computer operating system later this year, according to Wang.

He estimated that ultrabooks would make up at least 35 per cent of the Acer product line by the end of this year. Since Aspire S5 is Windows based it is not likely to be a direct challenge to MacBook Air laptops, which have been winning converts to the sleek machines powered by Apple software, according to Bajarin.

"The real battle is not with Apple, it is with all the other vendors coming out with Windows ultrabooks," Bajarin said."Apple will still do great with MacBook Air, but in the Windows world it is great news that five years after Apple set the tone the industry is finally fetting something equal," he continued.

Acer also announced plans to launch a free service that will let users of its computers store video, photos, music, and documents in the Internet "cloud" and access files from any Windows 8 or Android software powered gadgets.

"We believe Microsoft will take care of Windows devices; Google will take care of Android devices, and Acer will take care of in between," Wang said.

"We will make Windows work very well with Android and other platforms too."

Bajarin described Aspire S5 as the first viable Windows equivalent of popular MacBook Air laptops built by California-based Apple.

Acer Cloud appeared to be a Windows version of the Apple's freshly-launched iCloud service that lets people access their content from iPads, iPhones, iPods, and Macintosh computers, according to the analyst.

LG to launch Google TV next week

LG Electronics Inc said on Friday it would unveil its first Google TV next week, joining Sony Corp and Samsung Electronics Co in partnering with the search giant to get a foothold in the emerging Internet TV market.

Google hopes to replicate the success of its Android mobile software in the TV market, but its attempt to conquer the living room has seen limited success so far due to a lack of web content and support from hardware manufacturers.So this may not be a good step by LG since Sony and Samsung didn't get any success from Google TV.

Google TV allows consumers to access online videos and websites on their TVs, as well as specialised apps such as video games. Currently it comes built-in on certain Sony television models and Samsung is also working with the US firm to launch Google TVs.

LG said on Friday it would introduce its first Google TV next week at the annual Consumer Electronics Show(CES) in Las Vegas.

Google said on its blog that chipmaker Marvell Technology Group, chip designer MediaTek and TV manufacturer Vizio were also new partners for its Google TV service.

Grappling with slowing demand and cutthroat competition, TV manufacturers hope forays into the Internet TV market will help cushion squeezed margins.

Research firm Display Search expects the global TV market to grow only 2 per cent this year after no growth in 2011 due to soft consumer demand amid a weak global economy.
